About the Collective
Roots Collective is a free-to-attend group for local emerging theatre-makers (aged 16+). The Collective supports the creative and professional development of members through peer-learning and co-creation, while growing and deepening creative networks in the area.
Roots Collective has been hosted in Inverness at Eden Court for 2 years and performed at our ROOTS Festival in 2023 and 2024. It will perform at scratch nights across the Highlands in the future; these performances support the continued development of the piece through audience feedback, and are a unique opportunity to experience the process of making devised theatre for local stages.
Formerly known as Budding Collective.

Calling Highland venues!
Roots Collective is responsive to the local area and the needs of local emerging / aspiring theatre-makers. We are growing our pool of Collectives beyond Inverness and into other Highland communities.
We are currently building relationships with Highland venues who can host local Collectives, support us to connect with local artists and groups to learn how a Collective can best serve them and their community.
Calling groups and organisations!
We want to connect with local arts spaces and activities that engage with locals interested in the arts to learn how Roots Collective can support local emerging and aspiring theatre-makers.
Calling Highland artists!
We want to hear from individuals interested in starting a Collective in their area for local artists to develop their skills and understanding in theatre-making.

Previous Collectives
2024: Generations
Catherine MacNeil | Joanna Shand | Lindsay MacLeod | Stephanie Riffort | Megan MacDonald | Hunter Martin
Generations investigates generational trauma primarily through a feminist lens. We follow Beryl, Jasmine and Margot: three women, one family, on a journey of identity crisis and ideological discovery where the experiences of each generation offer differing socio-political traumas leading to an explosion of familial angst.

2023: They Don’t Fear Us Enough
Audrey Daines | Jay MacGregor | Linsday MacLeod | Morna Ross
A short piece set on March 8th, International Women’s Day! Exploring the gender pay gap from different perspectives and generations of three women Angela, Amber and Amy. The Gender Pay Gap bot has exposed their company online, what should they do? Will they do anything at all? In this piece, they will ruminate over whether they can afford (both literally and figuratively) to speak up about this abhorrent discrepancy.
